It takes place in Morioh in the new continuity that was established in part 7.
It's not that this arc was bad, per se, it was just that when series creator Hirohiko Araki was writing this part, he was still finding his voice and confidence as a writer so it didn't quite feel like the Jojo's people know today.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the more fascinating, resilient anime series that are out there and for well over a decade Hirohiko Araki’s exploration into the Joestar family has kept audiences enthralled. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure applies a creative and unconventional take to the standard shonen anime structure with how each season shifts its ...
Curiously JoJolion itself has now been running for a decade and has lasted longer than many other anime series. It’s the longest chapter in the growing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure saga, and it speaks to how each new story arc seems to grow bigger and more out of control.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fits into the overcrowded shonen genre, but its classification as shonen honestly undersells the originality that’s on display. JoJo does appeal to a younger male demographic and is filled with fights, like other shonen anime, but it approaches it in an unconventional way that tells a generational story across the Joestar lineage. Each season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure also has its own distinct flavor, which indulges other genres. For instance, Diamond is Unbreakable features a lot of smaller slice of life content, but something later like Steel Ball Run turns the narrative into a racing series.
Dubs are not an essential viewing experience for an anime, but they can be helpful for more reluctant audiences. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure doesn’t just have a dub, but it’s actually a very high-quality one that absolutely does the material justice. It’s always exciting when it’s announced that popular manga will be turned into an anime series, but what’s become an increasingly crucial factor in the adaptation process is the anime studio that’s responsible. An inexperienced studio or one that’s spread too thin can ruin a promising series.
Just experience it as it released, closely and periodically following the Manga. At the time of writing this, there exists 8 canon parts of the Manga.
This season is split into two parts, the second part simply titled as “ Battle in Egypt ”. Most JoJo memes originate here, if you're interested.
One is simply “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders” which is the first season. It has 24 Episodes. The second season also has 24 Episodes but is called “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders/Battle in Egypt”. Together 48 Episodes. The difference is that Battle in Egypt refers to Jotaro and the gang when they reach Egypt.
One thing to note is that both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency we’re combined together in the reboot of the series they did. That one in total has 24 Episodes and is simply named “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure“.
Part 6: Stone Ocean – Will shine light on Jolyne Cujoh and her teams battle with Enrico Pucci. This is where gender equality strikes back!!
7. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run - Work in progress (No anime)
Additionally there's a film adaptation by the same studio titled Phantom Blood, though it is indeed an adaptation of the first part of the Manga, not a great adaptation at that.
