Kensuke Tachibana. A manager in the yakuza gang. The younger brother to Naoki's mother, Kensuke asks his nephew to convince Ryu to become the fifth. He did not say that Ryu has to succeed the gang right away, they do not even know when the fourth, leader Oyabun will break down.
Asked if he really does want Ryu to become the new head of the family, Nao answers it suits him more than the driver's uniform. With how close Ryu was to him, for six years Nao has always pushed him away as much as possible for Ryu to get his independence. He wondered what would happen if the man who will become the head of the family is led around by him. Since it is his third semester he is studying at home while he helps tend to his family's restaurant. Noting that Ryu skipped class Nao considers what is he doing, he cannot graduate like that. Seeing Ryu wounded Nao bandages his wrist and says to tell him if things get any worse . Rejecting his advances, Nao asks what will Ryu do if he is not with him anymore. Nao feels up until now Ryu does everything to follow him but it is just because he sees no one but him. Agreeing to be his bodyguard Nao goes along with all of Ryu's suggestions such as bathing and sleeping together. Taken as a hostage Nao elbows his captor and nonchalantly says not to touch him. Seeing that Ryu is easily overcoming the aggressors Nao notices a gun drawn and endures the bullet. Stopping Ryu from killing the shooter, Nao then uses his phone to photograph them and means to send their faces to the Oohara gang. If they do not want him to do this then they had better disappear quickly. Not bothered at the gun shot wound in his arm Nao assures Ryu he will not die. When Ryu shares that if he succeeds the gang he cannot be with Nao anymore due to possibly being targeted, the words induce a change in him. While Nao thinks he always wanted to leave Ryu he hugs him instead and does not want to break up with him. Taking him to an exchange of the sake cup Nao understands it means they are in they are in the same boat for the rest of their lives. He thinks they should have done this from the beginning. Telling Ryu that he does not need to protect him, Nao points out he managed to be fine until now and besides he is stronger than Ryu anyway.
Mike Connors' character would narrate the episode, echoing film noir technique. He starred as an undercover police officer, known only as "Nick" (although some sources revealed that his last name was "Stone", his last name was never shown in the series' ending credits). Only his immediate superior on the police force knew he was working undercover.
Despite the show's popularity, it was canceled after only one season. Mike Connors stated in an interview that the show's primary sponsor (J.B. Williams) refused the network's request to move it to a later timeslot on a different day.
