Given was first a manga created by Natsuki Kizu. If the name doesn't ring any bells, maybe the name Gusari does. She started off as a doujinshi artist for Hetalia, Kuroko no Basuke, and Haikyuu!! She made a name for herself through her sensitive exploration of love and friendship in her fanart.

While given doesn't need to be anything more than a romance to be a good Boy Love anime, its handling of grief makes it one of the best anime stories detailing the subject regardless of genre. Instead of bringing you through constant sad emotions, given forces you piece them together when Mafuyu decides he's ready to.
The official website for the manga announced that the special edition version of the seventh volume would bundle an original video animation (OVA). It was first released on December 1, 2021.
"It's stuck deep inside me and I can't get it out of my head. Mafuyu's voice is an insane and dangerous weapon." That day, Ritsuka Uenoyama started to feel that playing the guitar and playing basketball, both of which he liked very much, were becoming boring. He then encounters Mafuyu Sato, who's holding onto a broken guitar, and decides to fix it.
Honestly, it's a really basic premise. But it appears so hard to find a show having gay main characters, yet not making a huge deal about it. The main focus it's somewhere else, the topics are rich and well displayed and the music depiction it's so accurate. I wanted to find something else like this and I haven't found it yet.

‘Given’ Season 1 premiered on July 12, 2019 and with a total of 12 episodes, it came to an end on September 20, 2019. The anime has been adapted from a manga series that has a total of 5 volumes to date. So far, the volumes of the manga have had a very sporadic release schedule, where the first one came out way back in 2014 and the recent one released in April, 2019. Considering this, we can assume that the manga is far from over and though the author has been a little inconsistent with publishing, he will be forced to produce content more regularly if the anime manages to do exceptionally well.
It might be a bit too soon to say anything about a full-fledged season 2, but just recently, it was confirmed that a new sequel anime film of ‘Given’ will be premiered in 2020. Hopefully, season 2 will also be announced after the release of the film.
