That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. are similar in that the Overpowered OP wins all the time and create a peaceful "clan"/town/guild of sorts. Sophiemzx says... Both anime is light-hearted.
As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield.
Unlike BOFURI, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari is not a comedy anime. It has its own flair of silly and cutesy moments, but its themes are rather quite serious and mature. It’s grand how this show’s narrative is highly original and in a class by itself. It’s even interestingly political in more ways than one.
