The Popcorn Time interface presents thumbnails and film titles in a manner similar to Netflix. This list of media can be searched and browsed by genres or categories. When a user clicks on one of the titles, the film is downloaded via the BitTorrent protocol. As with other BitTorrent clients, as soon as Popcorn Time starts to download a film, it also starts to share the downloaded content with other users (in technical terms, it seeds the torrent to others in the BitTorrent swarm ). It continues to make the downloaded content available to others until the movie is deleted, which is normally done automatically once the application is closed.
On March 14, 2014, Popcorn Time's original website and GitHub repository were removed after allegations of copyright infringement. It was later revealed by the Sony leaks that the MPAA did indeed prevent the original developers of Popcorn Time from continuing to work on the program. Despite the copyright complaints that the software received, Popcorn Time's developers simply wanted to move on. They said, "our experiment has put us at the doors of endless debates about copyright infringement and copyright, legal threats and the shady machinery that makes us feel in danger for doing what we love. And that's not a battle we want a place in".
Popcorn Time was developed "in a couple of weeks" by a group from Buenos Aires, Argentina who elected "Pochoclín" (derived from pochoclo, which means popcorn in Buenos Aires parlance) as their mascot. They believed that piracy was a "service problem" created by "an industry that portrays innovation as a threat to their antique recipe to collect value", and also argued that streaming providers were being given too many restrictions and forced to provide inconsistent service between countries, noting that streaming providers in their native Argentina "seem to believe that There's Something About Mary [1998] is a recent movie. That movie would be old enough to vote here."
On November 3, 2015, the popcorntime.io domain was obtained by the MPAA after winning court orders in Canada and New Zealand. This came about after winning an injunction on October 16, 2015, to shut the website down, although the project reappeared on a new website ( popcorntime.sh ).

Hi all. I'm looking for links that I can put into popcorn time, that actually work. For anime specifically. I searched around and I've tried various options that were recommended in the past, some from right here in this sub. But nothing works, you always get an error message after you restart the app, when you press the "anime" tab.
Hey all, I'm using Popcorn Time 0.4.6 (from popcorn-ru.tk) in a Windows 10 x86. Whenever I try watching a movie the app crashes in the mid of download, any suggestions to get it fixed?
This has been discussed on this subreddit previously, I've finally found out why I couldn't DLNA Stream from PopCornTime on my laptop to my Samsung QLED TV.
Any idea why the app keeps crashing on Mac? I've also seen it happening alot for others that aren't on mac
i am trying to watch a show ive been planning to watch for a while now, but it seems to be available only in russian? Can i fix this? I have the same issue with FTWD (Fear The Walking Dead), it is automatically in spanish for some reason?
I installed the newest version 0.1.6 from the link i found on this sub but when i open it, it crashes after a second : ( any fixes?
I got this link off the FAQ's. Says it's dodgy and when I downloaded it doesn't work. It's happened a lot of times now. Used to be my staple for years. I miss it. Please advise
24h ago everything was working fine but now I'm stuck at connecting with everything (so show or movie has good health).
So I have a Samsung phone and Samsung TV connected on the same network.
Hello, My popcorn does not load every time I press on any movie it just says connecting and never loads as you can see in the video, if you want to view the video you need to click on the streamable link as it would not let me upload the video directly, I have a VPN on as well.
Reading in the FAQs they have updated the text saying that the latest desktop version is 0.4.6 (screenshot) however in the build link ( http://popcorn-ru.tk/build/) the latest downloadable version is still the 0.4.5 ! Version 0.4.6
A fews days I downloaded the new version 0.4.6 and installed to substitute my previous one 0.4.4
It happens every single time, it freezes after like 20-30 minutes in the movie and i cannot do anything but close the movie.
It only displays half. When I remove a movie it is gone but when I add a movie it doesn't show up. Any solutions?
I just would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU! for mantaining this amazing app, I downloaded it today (following all the instructions on the FAQ) after years of not using it (I used to use this back when it was popcorntime.io) and the app is flawless, its such a shame that the download website has been taken down but thanks that we still have this subreddit.
I really want to watch something which I found out I can only watch on here, but I'm a little concerned about watching on this app without VPN (don't want to pay anything). How concerned do I need to be about viruses, legal action, etc.?
hello there 👋 i just wanted to make sure that this subreddit is for the app version above before asking for help about it
I used to have two different popcorntime.xx one was more up to date with movies most of the time and the other was much better about getting television updated and also ran much smoother. The second one disappeared and it seems to be scrubbed.
