Also, most of the time in America, the subbed Japanese version is available for free viewing for anybody. Do Japanese viewers have to pay in order to stream anime in Japanese? My guess is no, because I wouldn't see why Japanese viewers would be charged to view anime in Japanese when U.S. viewers get to stream anime in Japanese for free.
Though a few recent songs eked their way into the top 20 results, it’s largely comprised of songs that are at least 20 years old. Considering that many Japanese people watch (and re-watch) anime well into adulthood, it’s not that surprising! It looks like the love for Evangelion won’t die anytime soon, either.
It's suddenly a very crowded marketplace for streaming services in Japan. What's more, it remains to be seen whether the aging Japanese public at large even wants subscription streaming services. The country is famously old fashioned in how it consumes media (they still buy enough CDs to keep Tower Records in business over there).

The majority of anime songs (or "anisong" as the kids like to say) are not mainstream anywhere but nerd circles. Theme songs performed by voice actors or composed just for the show tend to stay pretty low-profile in the rest of the music world.
Anyways, it's completely fine. A lot of people feel kind of iffy because anime is viewed as weird and nerdy, but if you really like a song, no matter what it is, listen to it!

A simple answer is that they like the music. They also might like the anime it comes from, and by listening to it they get the same feelings they get from watching the anime. There are also usually subtitles so the viewer know what the song says.

What's difficult to place here is exactly what makes an anime song an anime song, other than, obviously, being used in an anime. The songs that end up in shows are often generic J-pop performed by a voice actor , or an otaku -friendly singer that's on a record label affiliated with the production.
Soundtracks breathe life into an anime, and that is especially true for opening songs. It's these minute-and-a-half teasers that give viewers a taste of exactly what's going to go down in that particular series. And sometimes, some anime opening songs just far outshine the rest in animation, quality, and catchiness.
Unravel still remains one of the most iconic openings out there. Other than that, the anime itself was fairly enjoyable, although I would highly recommend the manga over it.
