A 2020 survey conducted in the United States found that anime movies were generally more popular among men than women, with 13 percent of male respondents reporting that they found anime to be very favorable, compared to nine percent of women who said the same.
More girls are likely to watch drama and romance, while action and shounen are aimed at guys, but girls watch them as well. I can say it's more likely that guys probably watch more ecchi than girls, but that doesn't mean girls don't (like myself).

While every anime and manga fan has a reason to love it, the essence of anime’s and manga’s popularity lies in their storytelling and the indisputably great visuals. Men do identify with the dreamy and realistic characters.
More girls watch CR shows than guys do probably because they have the library of drama for girls. Obviously, that poll doesn't include non-members who love to watch anime. Anime is Life! i reckon even!
While it's difficult to pinpoint the exact number, estimations say somewhere between 40% and 60% of the global population watches anime. Although its beginnings date back to the 1960s, anime didn't gain its current popularity until the last couple of decades, and it's been growing ever since.
Even though shounen and seinen manga and anime may be targeted toward men and some of most well-known are created by men, that doesn't mean women won't be interested. In fact, some of the most well-known manga and anime franchises aimed at men are created by women.

Shōnen manga (少年漫画), also romanized as shonen or shounen, are Japanese comics mainly marketed and aimed at a young teen male readership. These graphic novels and comics are primarily for boys between the ages of 12 through 18.
Yes , of course. In fact I'm one of them . In India many people think that anime is for kids . But there are a lot of male weebs / otakus who watch anime .
Anime/manga target all ages and social groups. They encompass all genres: science fiction, action adventure, romance, historical drama, erotic, literary, information, humor, and sports.
So keep watching what you love, keep collecting those figures, and never stop making those fanworks! Anime is for adults, as well as children and teenagers, and anyone else who adores the medium.

According to an article from Share America: “One way of measuring anime's popularity is the massive growth in attendance at anime conventions across the country. In its first year in 2002, the organizers of Anime Boston expected 500 attendees and 2,000 turned out. Recent crowds have consistently surpassed 20,000.”
However, Thorn's claim that "the bulk of young male readers gravitated to just three weekly magazines: Jump, Magazine, and Sunday. Boys were concentrated in a vertical column, all reading virtually the same manga, whereas girls were spread out horizontally" throws a wrench into that hypothesis.
So most Japanese do not read manga as adults, and most who had a dream of being a mangaka gave up on it. Teens and adults who are involved in subculture are generally viewed negatively by the general populace, and many are socially-awkward or hikikomori (a consumer demographic which is uncommon in the U.S.).
The extinction of the printed magazine is inevitable: not a matter of “if” but “when.” . . . Even those who work in the giant manga publishing houses--Shueisha, Shogakukan, Kodansha--acknowledge that those corporations are dinosaurs, massive and slow, unable to turn quickly or adapt to sudden changes in environment.
This is one of the most popular types of manga and anime. It is usually combined with another genre and since it is targeted at a young (teen) male audience, shounen series are often referred to as "boy's comics." The main character of these titles is usually a male who embarks on an action-packed adventure in which he is likely to encounter foes and extremely attractive females. The art style of this demographic is usually more angular to complement the subject matter and fanservice is common. One of the most popular titles associated with the shounen demographic is Shounen Jump, an anthology that publishes several shounen titles weekly in Japan and monthly around the world. Many artists of all genres debut in various such anthologies. Popular series include the older Dragonball series and the newer Naruto. Dead giveaways: crazy hair; action and/or violence; the underdog protagonist with huge potential and a destiny to come out on top.
But rather than leaving it at that, many anime and manga series are part of more specific genres that stem from the list of those generally known to those unfamiliar with manga and anime; it is common for many series within one of these genres to have almost identical plots, but there is still a great deal of variety beyond these.
Seinen. This is essentially shounen all grown up. Intended for adult males, seinen manga and anime is usually discernible from shounen by its content, which is more graphic and likely to feature adult situations unsuitable for minors.
Additionally, most anime is based on its manga counterpart, and as manga is often targeted at certain demographics it is read by much of the Japanese population, not just comic fans.
Kodomomuke. Often just called "kodomo," manga and anime of this demographic is targeted specifically at children. There tends not to be any themes or content that's unsuitable for children and the plots teach moral values. Tetsuwan Atomu (Mighty Atom or Astro Boy) and Tottoko Hamutarou (Hamtaro) are examples.
