Sony’s stranglehold on anime is now practically complete, following its $1.1 billion purchase of Crunchyroll and historical acquisition of Funimation. Now, as expected, it’s combining the two services under a single umbrella: Cunchyroll is absorbing practically all of Funimation’s content, as well as its subsidiary, Wakanim.
So for the most part it looks like Funimation's content will be leaving except for stuff simulcasted on Hulu between 2019 and at least 2021. Hulu should still be getting some Funimation content in 2022 but probably much less than before. Edit: I should also add that Hulu has been losing a ton of anime for a few years now.
And seeing as Funimation manipulates popular anime by drastically changing the dialogue, it only makes sense why they’d “throw it away” as a lost cause. 2. Backlash within the company among women
Eventually all funimation shows/dubs will be moved over. That much is for sure, at least according to what they've stated. What I'm not sure about is if that applies to "uncut" versions that were on funimation too. Right now it seems to be a mixed bag.
While Funimation is staying online for the time being, it's unlikely there will be any major updates at this point, as the platform inevitably winds down. One thing worth mentioning is that currently-airing anime will have new episodes released on Funimation as normal.
Recently, Crunchyroll confirmed in a blog post that Funimation would become part of its brand. This means that Funimation, its subsidiary Wakanim, and Crunchyroll's VRV streaming service will become part of Crunchyroll. That is, all your favorite anime will be in one place.
Funimation will continue to operate as normal for the time being, but the move makes clear that Crunchyroll will be the main platform going forward, and any new anime starting in spring 2022 will only be available on Crunchyroll. Funimation will only continue to update series already hosted on the service.
If you're primarily interested in a large anime content library, Crunchyroll is the right fit for you. But if you'd prefer dubs to subtitles and would like to enjoy anime offline, then Funimation is your best bet. Both services offer a free plan and a free 14-day trial.
Is a Funimation Subscription Still Worth it Following Crunchyroll Merger? Purchasing a Funimation subscription in 2022 might not be worth it, since the streaming service will eventually completely merge with Crunchyroll.

Not all of Funimation's titles will be available on Crunchyroll immediately, however. Some notable omissions include anime classics like the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, the Dragon Ball titles, and the Robotech franchise, which was a pretty big deal when Funimation gained the streaming rights to it a few years back.

In Polygon’s report, Funimation President Gen Fukunaga sent a memo to employees announcing that the company will be leaving the streaming platforms as a direct result of Sony’s purchase….
