Also asked, can I play Danganronpa v3 without watching the anime? No, the anime deals with the ending of Makoto and Hajime's storylines. V3 has nothing to do with that so you can play the game without watching the animes.

This game does take place in an AU it was advertised that way in Japan a lot of people who do not know this in America are super confused. Short answer : Yes, it is set after the anime.
I tried playing Danganronpa 1, but couldn't get into it as I had already watched the anime, which while watered down, resembles the game plot. Haven't played Danganronpa 2. Short answer: no.
its the same as asking if its worth watching the show if you already played the game. Yes, they are different experiences, but not necessarily different enough.
People have already answered this, but no, the anime will not spoil the plot of the game. It is its own seperate story meant to end the Hope's Peak arc of the first two games, as Danganronpa V3 is going to have its own story.
There are mild sexual references and some swearing, but overall it is fine for an 11 year old.
A big twist reveal is that Danganronpa is fiction in V3, and the killing game of V3 is created for Danganronpa fans. So its not in the same world as the other two games, but in a world more similar to our own where they created a sort of reality TV show that is Danganronpa.

Danganronpa is very dramatic, but the game takes the cake when it comes to dramatizing scenes. The story scenes, trials, and investigations are a lot more drawn out. The game features more arguing between characters and even more development between classmates like Sakura, who ends up being the group's spy.
If we are talking about the main plot (that means, not including the School Mode that you get after beating the game), there are two endings for the first Danganronpa episode: a good one and a bad one. The bad one will ultimately lead you to the point where you can choose between the good and the bad ending.
The Hope's Peak Universe and story ended in the Danganronpa 3 anime. The only returning character for V3 is Monokuma. I'd still recommend playing the previous games and watching the DR 3 anime just because they're still great, even though the anime (pretty awful personally) has mixed (mostly negative) reviews.
Currently you are able to watch "Danganronpa: The Animation" streaming on Hulu, Funimation Now, Crunchyroll or for free with ads on Crunchyroll. It is also possible to buy "Danganronpa: The Animation" as download on Vudu, Apple iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play Movies.
DRV3 is its own self-contained storyline, but it might have some fourth wall-breaking references to DR3 that you won't get. It's certainly not required to watch it.
Yes, definitely. Future Arc covers what happens after the first killing game and Despair Arc shows what happened to the class of Danganronpa 2. In fact, I would highly recommend playing Ultra Despair Girls before watching the anime. I don't think you need to watch DR3, it does tie up the arcs though.
The Danganronpa series has 2 anime series to it's name: Danganronpa the Animation: an anime adaptation of the first game, Trigger Happy Havoc. As it condenses the plot to fit into a short series, it skips numerous details and elements in order to only feature the absolutely mandatory things to know of the game.
There are also novels, like Danganronpa Zero, Danganronpa IF, Danganronpa Hagakure, Danganronpa Kirigiri and Danganronpa Togami, if you want to be a completionist like me.
Danganronpa Togami: prequel light novel series featuring Byakuya, a character from the first game and details his actions and life shortly before the events of the first game. Killer Killer: a spin off manga taking place in the universe of Danganronpa, set sometime after THH but before Side Future.
So Danganronpa 1, and then Danganronpa 2, from that point onwards, the series splits off into 2 separate paths. The first one is the “Hope’s Peak” path, which shows the end of the Hope’s Peak storyline. To play that, play Danganronpa Another Epi
To my understanding, by ignoring the games you set yourself up to being severely lost by the time you reach the final arc of the anime series .
So the first anime is completely optional to watch, but the second is certainly relevant, as well as the special. Depends on what you are intending to ‘watch’.
Also, as far as I know - and I could be wrong about this - there is no anime adaptation to Trigger Happy Havoc’s follow up , Goodbye Despair. And this game is brutally important going into the events of Danganronpa 3. I mean, technically in Zetsubou-hen (Despair Arc), you get introduced to the relevant characters, and what started them out as they are in the second game, but you miss out on important events that lead up to a particular scene in Mirai-hen (Future Arc) and Kibou-hen (Hope Arc). Furthermore, the 2.5 Komaeda Special will leave you with even more questions.
In saying that, the games are really fun . I'd really suggest, try playing (or watching on youtube, there's lots of playthroughs with no commentary) to the end of chapter 1 of the first game (Trigger Happy Havoc). If you really hate it then switch to the anime, but most people love it once they start getting into it.
At the very minimum, you need to play DR2, since there's no anime adaption and it's vital (vital!) to the story.
For DR1, mostly. The DR1 animation is a full adaptation of the story from DR1, but you do miss out on the fun parts of playing the game.
No you can’t. Only dr1 has an anime, dr2 does not. You would be skipping from 1 to the only other anime, 3 (which is different from V3 and missing out on UDG and the final game V3. Not possible to do what you’re asking
