Overall, How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? is a distinctive anime that will help people get up and going. It is disappointing that it lasted one season with a rushed ending, bland minor characters and hit-and-miss English dub voice acting.
(Dumbbell Nan-Kilo Moteru? or How Many Kilograms Can You Lift in Dumbbells?) manga has been green-lit for this summer. The "body-building comedy" centers around Hibiki Sakura, a high school girl who loves eating, and Akemi Sōryūin, the beautiful and charismatic student council president who has a muscle fetish.
There is a big difference in the tone between these two series. Kengan Ashura was more dark and action-packed while Dumbbells is more light-hearted and educational. For the latter, the educational theme is the main highlight of the anime itself.
Hibiki Sakura’s love for food is starting to affect her size. In effort to slim down, she scopes out her local gym only to discover two problems—it’s a haven for intimidating body builders, and her classmate Akemi has a weirdly aggressive muscle obsession.

How Heavy Are The Dumbells You Lift? is a fun and energetic Summer 2019 anime about a teenage girl named Sakura Hibiki who joins a gym to try and shed a few pounds, but finds herself drawn into the world of bodybuilding thanks to her classmate Akemi and her aptly named trainer, Machio.
Physical Abilities. As his physique would imply, his strength is leagues above the average human, able to easily crush a hand grip that only 100 people in the world could close with a single hand. By his own account, he was only strong enough to bench 100kg and bicep curl 50kg dumbbells when he was just starting out.
As a general rule, err on the light side. For example, you might choose an 8- or 10-pound dumbbell for biceps curls and a set of 20-pound weights for bench presses. If that feels really light as you're getting through the set, you'll know to move up in weight for the next round.
While the Baki series follows the story of the titular character attempting to gain strength in order to defeat his all powerful father, Kengan Ashura follows fighters as they represent companies and fight on behalf of Chief Executive Officers in brutal tournaments that result in takeovers determined in the strangest ...

No Problem. While leg day is important to hit as a bodybuilder, running can reach those muscle groups that may get overlooked, or at least not looked at enough. Running at a steady pace in between weightlifting days can also increase muscle mass and prevent muscle deterioration.
Koyo Women’s Academy student Hibiki Sakura (Madeleine Morris) loves to eat. As she walks home with her friend Ayaka, she consumes one snack after another (on-screen type announces the calories in each item). Ayaka points out she’s gained weight and suggests she go on a diet.
But a chunk of each episode is dedicated to “Machio’s Muscle Lesson,” where he explains various exercises—lat pulls, bench press, planks, etc., which the girls demonstrate. At the climax of the series, Machio is visited by his former coach and hero: bodybuilder and action movie hero “Barnold Shortsinator” (Cris George).
Hibiki realizes her school uniforms have gotten tight, and checking the scale confirms Ayaka’s observation. Hibiki briefly considers dieting, but refuses to quit eating. She stumbles into a nearby branch of Silverman Gym (a play on the famous Gold’s).
During a regular after-school grub crawl, gluttonous high schooler Hibiki Sakura is confronted about her ever-expanding waistline by her best friend, Ayaka Uehara. With her attempts at solitary exercise failing miserably, Hibiki decides to join the newly opened Silverman Gym.

Ai Fairouz's job as Hibiki is specially noteworthy since this was her first major role and she nailed it. ABDOMINAL AND THIGHS! Of course a show like this wouldn't have been able to work at all if it didn't have an endearing cast. They are all equally funny to the point it's hard to pick a favourite character.
