Yes, all attendees of Anime Expo will be required to wear approved face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, at all times unless in outdoor areas or actively drinking or eating. “Vintage,” historical, any non-current uniforms, and any military or police-style costumes may be addressed at the convention’s discretion (i.e., Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc.) Anime Expo® and the SPJA reserve the right to modify and/or update this policy at any time. If you are not cosplaying, you should make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes and walking shoes, as you will likely be on your feet most of the day. The convention may be hot once you are inside the venue, so you may want to dress in layers to stay comfortable.
Not at all. You can definitely enjoy a convention without dressing up.

Cosplay is a performance art in which the participants dress in costumes and make-up, representing characters from anime, video games, television and film. In addition to creating authentic costumes, the cosplayers also act in character and are usually subject matter experts on the characters they are replicating.
At Anime Expo (“AX”), we celebrate the creativity of cosplayers and encourage everyone to cosplay whomever they wish–regardless of size, gender, age, religion, shape, color, or even species. Cosplay is all about having fun!
18All attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in order to pick up their badges. Every badge must be activated to participate at Anime Expo 2022.
“Can kids cosplay?” A resounding YES. Children can cosplay and even do a good bit of the work that is involved in creating costumes and characters.
Many young women are attracted to cosplay as it allows for self-expression and also provides community and entertainment. “Even if I'm putting on the clothes and character of someone else, I've never felt more myself,” said Garcia.
History and Etymology for cosplay Noun. cos(tume) entry 1 + play entry 1, after Japanese kosupure, short for kosuchūmupurē, borrowed from English costume + (role) play.
If you gravitate towards cosplaying, lean into it. It’s really fun to decide the character and get your own hands to design the outfit for yourself. From wigs, makeup, costumes, and shoes, changing yourself into a totally different person is such a must-try experience.
In the large-scale anime or cosplay convention, high chance it’s terribly crowded. It’s important to avoid any dramatic and long trailing pieces that you could easily be tripped over.
If you don’t prefer cosplaying, it’s okay too! A cool anime quote tees are always worth investing in. Not only you can wear them to the anime festival, but they are also subtle enough to wear in daily life. While only half of the crowd in the anime convention will do the cosplay, but most of the people will at least wear an anime-related shirt.
If you want to show your love to your favorite character, what about picking an anime top to get in the hype?
If you think cosplaying is too much of a hassle but still want to instill a touch of Japanese culture into your get-up, consider the iconic Japanese schoolgirl look.
I just can’t help but include this one. If you wonder what is the most effortless way to cosplay, being a sushi chef has to be top of the list. Team it with black pants and you’re good to go! You can match your look with your partner or friends for a sushi chef gang – isn’t that fun?
Even the venue is stuffy and hot, the weather may cold outside. It’s better to dress in layers so you can easily take the clothes on and off. Instead of wearing one cashmere turtleneck top, layer your look up with a tee and a shacket will be way better!
Over the years, SPJA has supported organizations such as the Japanese American National Museum, Animator Dormitory, and Japan Society Relief Fund through its annual Anime Expo Charity Auction.
So much to do you'll need shadow clones to do everything. With hundreds of hours of programming across 4 days, you'll need to choose wisely
So this will be my first time attending Anime Expo and I have seen/heard a lot of horror stories about the entrance line on the first day. Like people waiting in line for over three hours to get in. So my question is it worth going the first day? Or is it better to just go on the second day when they have a better handle of the lines?
My group plans to stay until Sunday night (to beat the July 4th airport). This means we arrive Friday night, leave Sunday night (4 nights 3 days).
Hello, I've been to AX back in 2019, but I'd booked a hotel on my own closer to the LAX airport.
Both of their details are missing on the chart here. Does anyone know if these hotels will still be participating the hotel block, since their rates were listed here? If so, are they good?
So anime expo mentioned to gain access to the convention you ether need to show vaccination cards or negative test results i was wondering if it had to be from a station or would a home kit mange to pass. Also was wondering if they may drop there rules or alter them with the current change up (Coachella dropping proof and mask rules)
Hey guys first post here. I have 2 extra 4-day general attendee badges I'd like to sell. I accidentally purchased 2 extra ones. I really can't say I know how I did but I did.
