Even without knowing anything about the overall Castlevania story/universe It's very much worth watching if you like dark fantasy. There isn't anything you won't understand by watching the show without knowing anything about the game series. So I love Castlevania, I hate anime, and I actually highly recommend you watch the first 4 episodes.

Also if you're a fan of the Diablo PC game... watch Castlevania. They have a lot of overlap in style and content. I've played the earlier Castlevanias (NES, SNES, Genesis and PSX) but nothing newer and I played Diablo and the gore and dark fantasy vibe are there.
Trevor Belmont, embittered and excommunicated, finds himself drawn into a battle for the survival of Europe - a region that has brought doom upon itself by taking away the one thing its greatest monster loved. Watch Castlevania Season 1 | Prime Video Skip to main content .us Prime Video
The series launched in July 2017, very loosely adapting the 1990 video game, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. The game is only so crucial to the TV series; the show enlists the game's heroes but otherwise develops a slate of original characters.
But Castlevania has a canon timeline that is decently straightforward; it's just that the games all released in random years. In fact, the upper echelon of Konami's leadership has defined the timeline in that they have rejected some of the games.
There is no need to have played the games, the show will fill you in. The games where the story is taking place (Castlevania 3) came out on the NES originally, so its not like the story telling was all that deep when they released.
For those who like vampire lore, animation, action, blood & gore — Castlevania is absolutely worth watching. Season one & two are fast-paced, with a solid story, great animation and some damn good killing scenes. Some people might find the content offending, because the show takes a lot of digs at the church.
Netflix's Castelvania is not set within the timeline of the games themselves. Rather, the events and characters of the animated series are inspired by 1989's Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, with notable influences from Curse of Darkness and Symphony of the Night.

It's an Easy (and entertaining) Marathon Watch But Castlevania's entire run so far is a little less than five hours over a span of twelve episodes. So you could take a lazy Saturday or stay up late one night and dive into this bloody world of vampires, monsters, and magic.

The cancelation of Castlevania was announced in April 2021, nine months after several women accused Warren Ellis of sexual misconduct.
Far from a flawless production, but it's entertaining, competently made and satisfying in most all the ways it needed to be. I can't wait to see more. The story of Castlevania is told very slowly. It's not just a slow burn, but an easing into the world, its characters and the amazing story that unfolds.
And while the latter seasons ran for ten episodes each, the inaugural season was considerably briefer, running for only four episodes. Series executive producer Kevin Kolde revealed one of the major reasons behind the truncated episode order for the animated series was the project's origins.
Series Review: Netflix's CASTLEVANIA Ends Four Seasons of Brilliant Horror Animation on a High Note. For four seasons, Netflix's Castlevania has delivered a diamond standard of American animation in this criminally underrated series.
Castlevania Legends is canon and Igarashi removed it from the timeline because he is sexist.
Although Super Castlevania IV is considered a remake of the original Castlevania in the Japanese Castlevania timeline by current director Koji Igarashi, Konami USA had not reflected it, and it remained a canon sequel to Simon's Quest according to Konami USA, up until it was removed with the release of the recent ...
The game is a self-contained reboot of the series, and thus not canon to the previous games. The game follows the epic quest of Gabriel Belmont, who seeks revenge against the murderer of his wife, and his battle against the mysterious Lords of Shadow who drive the world into darkness.
And then Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi famously stated that Circle of the Moon is no longer canon, which many took as a stamp of disapproval from the guy most heavily associated with the franchise.
A headstrong young woman seeks out forbidden knowledge, and a corrupt bishop courts disaster by enraging a legend.

Belmont explores the catacombs of Gresit and makes a disturbing discovery. As night falls on the city, the beasts return for blood.

You will need either a Nintendo 3DS or a Nintendo Wii U that you ’ll have to connect to Wi-Fi. While a Wii U is much, much easier to connect to your flatscreen TV than the original NES, you won’t be able to recreate the feel of playing the classic games, not without that iconic square controller.
Strictly speaking, the legality of game emulators for computers and laptops is grayer than R.O.B. So while I won’t explain step-by-step how to download and play emulators, I will say it’s super easy to set up, and you can start playing on your computer in just minutes. In short, different emulators exist for different operating systems (i.e. Macs will have different emulators than Windows PCs), so just bear in mind what OS you have.
Still, if you can find one in your basement, it’s worth a shot. Remember: the Wiimotes use AA batteries.
The cool thing about emulators is that you can buy third-party USB controllers that are shaped and molded exactly like original Nintendo, Sega, and even Atari controllers. Quality differs depending on manufacturer, so just do some quick research and read the Amazon reviews before purchasing.
On Friday, internet TV giant Netflix released the dark, violent first season of Castlevania, a new anime based on the classic Konami adventure games released originally on the Nintendo NES. And the show is pretty dang good; written by acclaimed comic book writer Warren Ellis ( Transmetropolitan) and produced by Adi Shankar, a Hollywood producer ( The Grey, Dredd) known for making adult-oriented fan films such as the viral hit POWER/RANGERS.
Perhaps taking cues of inspiration from other eastern-animated, western-directed cartoons , Castlevania takes the stylings of anime but speaks predominantly to a western, adult audience.
And it perhaps goes without saying, but the famous son of Dracula, Alucard (voiced by James Callis), is given appropriate treatment and even some surprisingly emotional depth later on. But humans chattering and crying and wallowing may not be what Castlevania fans signed up for with an anime adaption.
Using the third entry in the game series from 1989 as a baseline, the show eventually expands beyond the scope of that one game, remixing its own characters and ideas with ones from other places in the franchise such as Curse of Darkness.
There are many decisions that have come together to create Castlevania, the anime based on a retro video game franchise from Konami, something that would be so easy to fumble and cast off as a cheap licensed project. From the early goings, however, it was clear that Netflix's show had something to prove. Much like its Belmont-bred protagonist, ...
From the early goings, however, it was clear that Netflix's show had something to prove. Much like its Belmont-bred protagonist, Trevor (voiced by Richard Armitage), it gives a predictable first impression but rises to the occasion to deliver what it was born to do.
Hellsing centers on an eponymous royal order of Protestant knights, founded by Van Helsing himself, dedicated to hunting down the undead and other supernatural baddies in service of the English monarchy. But if that’s not enough of a draw, note that there are Nazi vampire battalions in it.
Those start with 1987’s Wicked City , Kawajiri’s debut, which involves an alternate dimension filled with demons that occasionally intersects with the human world and the secret agency dedicated to keeping humankind safe.
Mobile Suit Gundam and Akira veteran Hiroyuki Kitakubo’s award-winning 2000 film Blood: The Last Vampire may not be a household name for Western anime fans, but it was influential. It also inspired a couple of spiritual sequels, the 2005–2006 series Blood+ and the 2011 series Blood-C.
Then, in 2000, after Kawajiri had spent more than a decade inching toward a truly worthy adaptation of the works of his now-friend Kikuchi, he directed Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, based on the second sequel to Kikuchi’s original novel.
Like the Castlevania series, the Berserk franchise is a dark fantasy inspired by medieval Europe filled with mercenaries and unholy creatures and is, to put it mildly, exceptionally violent. (The protagonist’s name, Guts, is about as on the nose as one could imagine.)
Claymore. The humans in the medieval world of Claymore — named for a BFS of Scottish origin — live on an isolated island, which is likely the worst possible place to live when your society is infiltrated by the shape-shifting, man-eating, near-invulnerable monsters called Yoma.
The many adaptations of novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi. Hideyuki Kikuchi is one of Japan’s most popular light novelists in the horror genre, and the Vampire Hunter D series is arguably his best-known work.
Castlevania: 10 Differences Between The Show And The Video Games. The anime adaptation of Castlevania is great, but it has some big differences from the video games. For many decades, Dracula has been the pinnacle of darkness and power. His legends grew throughout time to shape him into the immortal god that he is known to be in the 21st century.
While the games focused on the protagonists and their companions , they briefly went over Dracula and his subordinates when it came to character development.
Trevor Belmont is a vampire hunter with incredible powers. The video games depict him as a heavily armored fighter with an arsenal of weapons. His top was covered in a breastplate and shoulder pads to protect him from incoming attacks. Trevor's main weapon was his trusted whip while a dagger, a sword, and holy water were frequently used to fight off his enemies.
Castlevania merely mentions Leon on some occasions when Trevor and his companions discuss him and the closest thing to an appearance he got was his portrait found in the Belmont underground library.
Dracula is simply following the laws of physics in the show: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Humanity has taken away his entire world by executing his love, he merely returned the favor.
In Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Trevor Belmont fights alongside Sypha the speaker, Alucard, the son of Dracula, and Grant the thief. The game dives into each character's background and connects the player to each one of them.
2 Hector Was Married In The Game, While He Was Camilla's Culprit In The Show. Castlevania 3 portrays Hector as a married general in Dracula's army. His plans to betray his master and flee with his wife could not be hidden from his friend Isaac, who killed Hector's wife to spoil his plans.
This is the best choice of anime to watch if you like Castlevania. The art style and the vibes are pretty similar, but that’s to be expected since both are Netflix’s originals with the same producers. We have magic, demonic creatures, gore, and legendary non-human beings.
If you loved the vampire lead in Castlevania, you are going to like this one for sure. I mean come on, the main character in the show has the same name, Alucard. The most overpowered vampire of all time that fights other vampires and monsters to save innocent lives and a particularly important family.
D. is the name of a half-human, half-vampire called ‘dhampir’ just like Alucard from Castlevania. He is hated by everyone around him just because of his existence. Although, he is insanely strong and works as a professional vampire hunter.
Saya Kisaragi is like the Batman of her village. She is a cute anime schoolgirl by the day, but at night she lurks in the shadows to defeat monsters that may cause harm to her fellow village mates.
Some thousand years ago there was the end of a world kind of situation on the planet. Now in the devastated city of Romdo, the last human civilization on Earth is still surviving. Humanity is living under domes as it is impossible to live outside.
Another anime that is part of a video game franchise where you slay hideous monsters. It’s a mostly self-contained show that can be enjoyed without already being familiar with the franchise. Although, in the end, you may wish you knew more.
Something is extremely captivating about his persistence in killing goblins. It’s pretty understandable when you find out about his tragic back story. These are not your typical looting and attacking kind of goblins. In this story, goblins truly are disgusting savage creatures.
