Not Really. MyAnimeList has several spurious ratings, especially few of the top ones. Also, don't go into the relative rankings, they don't mean a thing. As a general rule, animes rated >= 7.5 might be worth watching, while significantly lower than that, they are not worth the time.
Whereas on MAL a 5 is average and a 7 is good, for the ones wanting to change the way that they score, we need to remember this. Don't be afraid to give a anime a 6 or a 7, those aren't bad scores, an 8 and above should be series or movies that you absolutely love, and have less issues with.

Let no one say that bad anime is a thing of the past. Ninja Collection was one of a few awful anime to air in 2020, and the show managed to disappoint fans across the spectrum with its ugly animation and convoluted storytelling, and there aren't even any actual ninjas involved.
Comedy in anime is truly one-of-a-kind, with some shows being legendary for the manner in which they deftly weave humor into their narratives. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about Vampire Holmes.
As is the case with most terrible anime adaptations, Vampire Holmes ' story is based on a mobile game, which should set off enough flags for now. None of the jokes land, the animation, as is the trend in these anime shows, is horrible, and the character of Sherlock Holmes (and others) is completely butchered.
But Hanoka, unfortunately, doesn't execute this concept to the degree it could have. A sci-fi show that focuses on action needs to have good action sequences.
IMDB is such a big reference because it has a gigantic amount of users who rate. And that's why it is a good reference and people point you to it. But it isn't an official rating site and it cannot be one. People are not forced to rate, so any rating you see anywhere is either by a single person or a selection of people.
I recommend you use MAL: not only to see ratings and other information, but to make a list for yourself, even if you normally don't care about doing your own lists and ratings. You can use the list to keep track of what you're watching/have watched, which episode you're on, etc.
So ratings/scores are a reference, and you should use them keeping in mind who gave them. If a website has become the de facto "go to place" for rates/ranks, like IMDB has for movies, then it's a very valuable reference, but not an official consensus of the viewers.
