The Dark Magician is one of the most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters out there. As the signature card of Yugi, the main character of the first anime, we've spent a lot of time with the card over the years. With that in mind, it makes sense that the monster has gotten eight different artworks over the years.
three Dark MagiciansYu-Gi-Oh! X - The Dark Magician cards still serve as the corner stone of Yugi's deck twenty years after the Ceremonial Duel. They also serve as a corner stone of Tag's deck, and Darin duels with a Spell-Caster Deck that specifically focuses on summoning one of his three Dark Magicians.

Despite having the same name as the purple "Dark Magician" always used by Yugi Muto, the alternate version of this monster used by Arkana in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga is not the same card, as it has a different eight-digit passcode.
1) "Dark Magician" and "Dark Magician Girl" do not have the same name, clearly. However, they are both part of the "Dark Magician" archetype. Thus cards that specify "Dark Magician" monsters can utilize them both.
While most likely a coincidence, the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl do draw some parallels to the story of Osiris and Isis, the Egyptian Gods. Dark Magician's skin has been green since one of his first printings in Legend of Blue-Eyes but also had those alternate color versions we called out earlier.

The "Dark Magician" archetype also meshes nicely with the Spellcaster control Decks against Spell/Pendulum-heavy or Trap-heavy Decks, allowing for fast field control while shutting down an opponent's ability to use Spells and Traps, namely "Dark Paladin" and "Sorcerer of Dark Magic".
The card that broke "Dark Magician" Decks in Duel Links, "Dark Magical Circle is great in the TCG as well. When it's activated, its user can look at the top three cards of their Deck and add "Dark Magic ian" or a Spell or Trap card that lists it specifically to the Hand. In addition, if "Dark Magician" is Summoned while "Dark Magical Circle" is on the Field, it allows its controller to banish one card the opponent controls. Since it's a Continuous Effect, the effect is a lot harder to negate. This makes it so "Dark Magical Circle" can get rid of problem cards easily and permanently, only needing to Summon "Dark Magician," something quite easy to do.
While it can be Normal Summoned, "Magician Of Dark Illusion" can be Special Summoned from the Hand by simply activating a Spell or Trap card during the opponent's turn. Once on the Field, if a Spell or Trap card is activated (or an effect is used), it can target a "Dark Magician" in the Graveyard and Special Summon it.
"Magicians' Combination" allows its user to Tribute a "Dark Magician" or "Dark Magician Girl" in order to Special Summon the one opposite of the Tributed Monster, and negate the effects of a card that is activated. A "Dark Magician" Deck doesn't have access to many cards that negate, making "Magicians' Combination" a very welcome addition to any "Dark Magician" Deck. Not just that, but if the card is sent from the Field to the Graveyard while face-up, it can destroy any card on the Field without Targeting, which is one of the best forms of removal.
If there's two or more, the opponent cannot activate cards in response to Spell, Trap, and effect activations. Spell and Trap cards cannot be destroyed either for that turn. And lastly, if there's three or more, all Dark Spellcaster Monsters are unaffected by the opponent's card effects. All effects can be used with one activation, allowing "Dark Magic Expanded" to give plenty of protection to its user's board.
"Magician's Rod" is probably the best Normal Summon "Dark Magician" Decks have. Upon Normal Summoning it, "Magician's Rod" can add a Spell and Trap card that specifically lists "Dark Magician" to the Hand. This allows it to add a plethora of cards that can really turn the tide of a duel around.
Yugi's iconic Ace Monster has formed into a rather large Archetype with a plethora of cards that strengthen any "Dark Magician" Deck. Not only that, but some "Dark Magician" cards are so powerful, many Decks are playing it that aren't even focused around "Dark Magician" itself.
It has a bonus effect that if a Dark Spellcaster Monster battles, "Apprentice Illusion Magician" can send itself to the Graveyard and give that Monster 2000 Attack and Defense during the Damage Calculation of that battle. With Link Summoning in the game, being able to get a free Link Material on the Field is always welcome, which makes "Apprentice Illusion Magician" such a good card.
The seventh iteration of the Dark Magician is far and away the best version of the monster. This variant once again uses the black and white design, but in an overall more dynamic and interesting way. It uses a lot of blue, and has an electric feel to it. If we're talking about power levels of the Dark Magicians, this one definitely takes the cake.

The first OCG artwork of the Dark Magician is the all-time classic, the OG of Dark Magicians. This was the version of Dark Magician that we saw in Yugi’s deck in the anime. This version features the usual Dark Magician with not green skin (because ew), posing with his hand on his hat with his knees bent.
The second OCG makes him look like an angry weeb. He's a skinny legend sure, but he's really not fulfilling his promise of being the ultimate wizard in terms of attack and defense. Even wizards need some bicep or something. He's also got green skin and blonde hair, which doesn't go with his purple outfit.
Every Signer Dragon, Ranked. The fact that the Dark Magician is actually in the process of summoning the Dark Magic Circle that surrounds him is a nice touch. It helps to illustrate the power that he has as a wizard. This one does the magician justice, but it doesn't do anything beyond that.
The newest OCG art isn't actually out in the TCG, which is a shame, it's some pretty good artwork. This once again features our blonde and green boy, but shows him in a different light than any of his previous artworks have before.

Dark Eradicator Warlock was actually rather cool at one point, and its art is boss – it’s the Dark Magician that’s fed up with all the nonsense. It can only be Special Summoned by tributing a Dark Magician on the field, which is a problem , but its effect makes up for it.
A fusion of Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman, two cards that would never be in the same deck together unless they were being used to summon this card. The upside is that the player never takes battle damage when this card is involved, which offsets the fact that it’s got weaker stats than Dark Magician.
