Each episode is presented as a traditional style theater performance. Using tools like puppets and paper cuts each story plays out across the stage. Many are horror classics such as ghost stories, tales of the occult and urban legends. The chilling, creepy feeling grows in the audience as each tale unfolds. This anime hasn't received the recognition it deserves. It remains largely obscure but it's truly terrifying. Any fan of horror will appreciate this unique presentation.

Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) Higurashi When They Cry is a wild roller-coaster ride. Keiichi moves to the quiet village of Hinamizawa. Most of his days are filled with crazy antics thanks to his new classmates. But, as the annual festival gets nearer, Keiichi notices some strange events occurring.
The movie was met with controversy upon release with screenings being banned outside of Japan due to graphic sexual violence and gore.

The humans in this anime lived in closed spaces behind walls in fear of titans, beings that eat them out of pure whim. We follow Eren Jaeger, a boy living with his family and fan favorite sister Mikasa as the titans come to destroy their home and make them flee in terror. There are moments of action and even at times a small laugh will come in, but there is only depression and fear in the eyes of the characters, and soon enough the viewers too.
When They Cry: Telling short stories with the same characters is the biggest trait for this show and they do an amazing job with it. Following different arcs that have definite resolutions, this one is also not for the faint of heart. Bashing hatred and pure contempt between characters resolved in one glorious final episode. The viewer sometimes forgets there is comedy and laughter in this show.
In simple terms, the story is about Hell girl, someone who promises to get rid of anyone who torments you forever. You just have to seal a contract with her and give your soul up when doing so. Spanning across various episodes and spin-offs, the anime tells a different story for each episode, all with the same mechanic.
Mononoke: Another famous anime for its short stories of Japanese folklore and scary cultural phenomena, it is a spin-off from Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales, telling its chronicles through 12 episodes. Highly addictive and fairly bizarre, it is another must watch for fans of the culture and of the horror.
The horror is bountiful in these anime and they treat you to quite a couple spectacles that are not easily forgotten. I wish you can all also appreciate the art styles and stories found in each one if you wish to see it and that you enjoy their passion just as much as I did.
