Since I have already done a list on anime with lesbian characters, it’s about time I compile those who have gay characters. Here’s the list of top anime with gay characters. You can also watch many of these best gay anime on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.
Some cases of supposedly LGBT characters were left out because of their harmful representations of gay relationships or LGBT feelings, and if you believe any of these characters are harmful in that way, please contact me right away, as I believe it's good to have real, unharmful representations that everyone can relate to. Any more to add?
Hokuto Umeda and Akiha Hara, and Hokuto Umeda are just a few of the characters who are gay. 21. Sekaiichi Hatsukoi The manga is based on the light novel that published in the year 2006.

Given is a Japanese BL drama adapted from a manga, focusing on a group of musicians in a band. When the main characters meet in school, they form a connection over their shared interest in guitars.
The series follows a group of four students in an amateur rock band, and the dual romantic relationships that form among them: between electric guitarist Ritsuka Uenoyama and vocalist Mafuyu Satō, and between bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji.
The ending of Given sees the two walking away down a riverbank path together, having agreed to begin dating. So, yes, Haruki ends up with Akihiko.
Haruki fell in love with Akihiko and it has been his prayer for something to happen over the two years he has known him. Haruki is two years older than Akihiko and they go to the same university together and are in the same band.
There have been four anime adaptations of the manga. Two are anime series, one is a movie, and one is an Original Video Animation. The protagonists of the anime are Ritsu Onodera and Masamune Takano. Ritsu works as an editor in his father’s publishing company.
This anime deals with devil s, demons, and Satan. Devils need a human host to take form but a strong-willed human can control them using the supernatural powers for themselves. Akira Fudou is a timid person but decides to help his friend who asks him to accompany him to a place to uncover the truth about devils. The party turns violent as devils start decimating everyone. To save his friend Akira merges with devil Amon and defeats everyone thus becoming a devilman. In this series, the character of Satan, Ryo, is shown to be homosexual as he falls in love with Akira.
He created a series of dolls called Hybrid Childs who are short of between artificial intelligence and humans. These dolls are not only able to experience human emotions but also need them to grow. One story shows Kotarou Izumi, ho belongs to a noble family, bringing an abandoned Hybrid Child home.
She wants Haru to meet his adoptive brother Ren who is an anti-social kid. Haru’s mother wants him to take care of Ren and make him more social. Since Ren generally closes himself off in front of other people, Haru has a hard time getting to know his brother. But time heals all and their relationship improves.
Though the plot and characters are decent enough to watch the show many shounen-ai consumers might be put off by the fact that this series has over 70 episodes.
It is a nice little piece of animation that will give you a taste of the shounen-ai genre. The entire OVA has around four episodes with each episode being 25 minutes in length. The best thing about this anime is that it has a nice story and good characters. Often when one starts watching this genre they end up watching a lot of anime which have just cheap tactics to get the viewer’s attention like making the contents visually vulgar and putting cheap jokes in. But ‘Hybrid Child’ refrains from doing that.
Cardcaptor Sakura (1998) This anime belongs to the fantasy/magic genre. The plot follows the life of a young girl named Sakura. One day she finds a book filled with cards and before she could understand anything the cards are accidentally blown away and scattered all over the world.
This anime features two best friends, Sumika and Ushio . Sumika is apparently in love with her best friend but doesn't confess because she fears rejection, mostly because Ushio has a type and Sumika just isn't it.
10. Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura (Banana Fish) The most recent LGBT rep we've seen of late was in Banana Fish - which was announced in October 2017 and aired in July 2018.
While some may say this is a stretch, both the anime and the manga adaptions of this series portray Shion and Nezumi as having an intimate, romantic relationship. The two share several kisses and waltz together amid chaos as an act of love.
Though this series came out in 2006, Haruhi is an LGBT revolutionary, as well as her drag queen father Ranka. Though the term 'tranny' (which is seen as derogatory) was used in the anime, these two were still true LGBT heroes in a time when there wasn't much rep out there. 5.
GuardianEnzo has already written about how quietly revolutionary No.6 's casual integration of a gay romance into a sci-fi thriller series aimed at general audiences is.
Though as far as including same-sex romance in popular sci-fi anime goes, you can't get more popular than Evangelion! Kaworu only appeared in one episode of the original TV series, but this mysterious romantic made an instant impression, while Shinji, who up until that point had been very unsuccessful in his relationships with women, found momentary happiness with Kaworu before Evangelion did its thing and made heads explode..
When Fire Emblem was first introduced, I was worried they'd fall into the ugly stereotypes gender-nonconforming and gay anime characters sometimes do (see how the usually hilarious One Punch Man made Puri Puri Prisoner one big unfunny rape joke).
Anime fans, being a ship-happy bunch, have probably theorized that EVERY anime character is secretly gay at some point or another. But James (Kojirou in Japanese) of Pokemon 's infamous Team Rocket pings off more people's gaydars than most.
More typically, dub writers for '90s childrens' TV censored out gay references rather than enhancing them, which led to the stupid decision to make the Sailor Stars' power couple "cousins." Sailor Moon was one of the first mainstream anime series to feature lesbian heroes (OnnaKawaii wrote more about homosexuality in Sailor Moon here ), and director Kunihiko Ikuhara would go on to further explore queer themes in anime..
CLAMP started off writing yaoi doujinshi, and have continued to include gay characters in their stories as they've become manga superstars. In this magical girl series, Tomoyo has a serious crush on her friend Sakura, and Touya and Yukito are officially a couple.
Yuri/shoujo-ai commonly comes in two flavors: "tragic lesbian" stories, where same-sex attraction ends with death and/or high school graduation in the model of early 20th century "Class S" Japanese literature, and more fanservice-driven series, aimed at straight men as yaoi/shonen-ai is at straight women.
3 Kaworu Nagisa. Kaworu is a bit complicated, but his feelings for Shinji seem pretty straightforward. Kaworu tells Shinji multiple times that he loves him, and the Shinji even seems to blush out Kaworus's words. While nothing comes of the relationship, seeing a series like Evangelion with LGBT characters is perfect.
5 Yukito Tsukishiro. Yukito is considered to be one of the most beloved characters in Cardcaptor Sakura. Yukito is in a romantic relationship with Sakura's brother Touya. The pair confess their feelings for each other quite frequently making it apparent to anyone enjoying the series that the two are in love.
Ryoji started crossdressing after his wife died and claims that he isn't interested in being with another woman. Ryoji is a recurring character in the show and gets along well with his daughter's classmates. This is a great example of a character being able to express himself and live as a woman without being judged.
Anime has an array of LGBTQ+ characters that have been featured in different series. Here are 10 of the best from Sailor Moon to Attack on Titan. While it may not always be talked about as much, there are tons of great examples of LGBTQ+ characters in anime. Even in the '90s, when other media was still mostly showing straight relationships, ...
Anime has had everything from proud crossdressers to anime based around tender, blooming relationships. For many fans, anime has become a medium that provided them with more relatable characters in a world that tends to favor heteronormativity.
While the same can't be said for Mai, Yuzu was a pretty great representation of a lesbian. Yuzu was outgoing, knew how to speak her mind, and overall went through learning about herself extremely well in the series. Yuzu came to the conclusion that she was gay in Citrus and she owned it.
If you’ve watched the superhero series ‘Tiger and Bunny ’ then you have an idea of the person responsible for the series’ appearance on this list.
The manga is based on the light novel that published in the year 2006.
One of the major reasons is that “Kono Danshi, Mahou ga Oshigoto Desu.
While technically, “LingQi” is a shounen-ai, its main focus is on other things, such as the supernatural theme, action, adventure, and so on.
A student at the University of Tokyo, Asumi, is a housekeeper for the Naruse family.
This is a truly unique animation. It’s sort of an homage to the whole world.
Before you begin watching Super Lovers, you have to be aware that this show isn’t for those who are just beginning to watching shounen-ai anime .
