Bokken in fiction. In the anime and the manga, Gin Tama, the protagonist, Gintoki Sakata, uses a bokken as his main weapon. His skills with it are powerful enough to overpower even real swords. In the anime and manga, Rurouni Kenshin, Kamiya Kaoru uses a bokken as her main weapon.
Coming to an anime convention for the first time can be an exciting experience! All kinds of people attend conventions, even people who aren't super into anime. Many people love their characters so much that they cosplay and come in costume. No matter what you intend to do, going to a pop culture convention can be incredibly fun!
If a malleable steel katana is repeatedly used, it can easily become nicked and the edge flawed, eventually leading to a broken expensive sword. Bokken are safer than fighting with real swords, and are considerably more durable; a wielder can make contact with other trainee's swords with little fear of damage.
In addition, training with a bokken does not carry the same mortal risk associated with that of a sharp metal sword, both for the user and other practitioners nearby. While its use has several advantages over use of a live edged weapon, it can still be deadly, and any training with a bokken should be done with due care.
Swords are allowed if they can be tied shut in their sheath, or if they are made of wood or plastic. Swords must never be waved around or wielded, but they can be used for still posing for photographs.
Metal barbed wire, swords, knives, throwing stars and claws are not permitted at Comic-Con. Baseball bats — wooden or metal — are prohibited, too. Lightsabers, staffs and canes are OK.

Permitted weapons/props: All fake, prop, or homemade weapons are permitted if they are in no way dangerous to fellow attendees. Sufficiently blunt wooden staves, swords, and bullwhips are permitted. Absolutely, in fact the majority of attendees don't do cosplay for the event. And if this is your first time, it may be for the best if you opt for comfort over creativity. If you have a relevant t-shirt, Comic-Con is a great place to wear it.
Everyone is welcome at comic con regardless of who you are and what you wear. In fact, it's one of the very few locations that embrace such diversity.
Remember: the more comfortable you are, the longer you last. If you are hoping to look professional and not sloppy, a tee and blazer combo with jeans and comfy yet stylish shoes are a good bet. If you have a nerdy tee to wear under the blazer, even better! Comic-Con = lines.
But unlike most of those, at the annual pop-culture convention Dragon Con, you're allowed to bring in guns — fake ones, that is. If your costume for Dragon Con includes a prop weapon, you might get a tap on the shoulder from someone like Amanda Tucker.

Cosplayers will usually go to an event to dress up as their favorite anime characters. They are there for themselves and not for anyone else. If other people appreciate his or her costume, then that would be a bonus. Most cosplayers are happy to oblige, but remember that you should always treat them with respect.
Do not use excessive makeup if you are cosplaying. If you are a cosplayer, makeup is probably an essential part of your costume. But it is possible to be a bit uncomfortable and feel hot in your suit. Sweat and moisture may ruin your facial makeup.
