An adaptation of a 1994 manga by Naoki Urasawa, Monster is a horror and psychological thriller anime that toys with the difficult themes of what it means to be human, if good and evil are within people from birth or if they are fostered over time, and how every action has a consequence that must be faced.

The god of the multiverse, Zen-Oh, is the strongest anime character in 2022. He has the power to erase any universe he wants and feels no remorse when he eliminates entire civilizations.
Baraggan Louisenbairn is one of the major antagonists of the famous anime, Bleach. He is an Arrancer of the Aizen's army, and his immense spiritual powers can easily defeat Saitama. His deadliest ability he can use against Saitama is Senescencia, using which he can slow the time near him.
Shishio Makoto was the main antagonist for the Kyoto arc in Rurouni Kenshin and he was certainly one of the most memorable. His sword, like Kenshin’s, was made by Arai Shakku and could utilize the blood and oil from people it’d struck down to use fire attacks.
Once he puts on the Stone Mask to become a vampire, he changes significantly both as a villain and in ability. But if we were going off of eyebrows? He’d probably be number one on the list.
But great power can’t make you a villain on your own -- the truly best villains are the ones who know how to use that power. Lelouch is very smart and uses the power of obedience in order to get his way in a very tactful way, making him highhandedly a worthy adversary.
Death Note was a classic anime and with Light Yagami at the head of it, we got to watch your normal, everyday high school boy become a mass murderer as he descends into madness. Much like Lelouch, Light is also extremely bright and clever.
25 BE AST TITAN . If you like anime, you’ve probably watched Attack on Titan at least once in your life. At first, you might have thought that this was just an anime with the “us against them” sort of mentality, but the Beast Titan really changed all that.
Gilgamesh has appeared in several different Fate series, but every time we see him, it’s always a joy. He’s always a powerful adversary that we love to watch fight because of how amazing his power is. Besides being extremely cocky and sure of himself, he has the power to call forth any weapon in his Gate of Babylon.
While his series had many different villains, Shinobu was probably one of the more intense people we saw Yusuke struggle against. A former spirit detective himself, he had a strong sense of what was right and wrong.
He somehow convinces Ymir Fritz to unleash the complete power hidden within the Founding Titan, which converts him into the largest entity ever seen in Attack on Titan. Eren's size notwithstanding, he also has the authority to temporarily "reincarnate" all the past users of the Nine Titans to do battle for him.
Bleach 's Yhwach is more powerful than every character in the series, long before he even reaches Soul King level. He doesn't need more than a single reishi sword-arrow to kill Yamamoto Genryusai, a man whose bankai is so dangerous that it could vaporize Soul Society.
The anime medium consists of a wide range of viewing options, but a large fraction of its storylines follow the standard hero's journey trope — one that necessarily ends (and perhaps even begins) with the villain. In fact, major narrative conflicts are often resolved when the protagonist actively takes up arms against the antagonist.
9 Ragyo Kiryuin — Kill La Kill. Ragyo Kiryuin reveals the protagonist, Ryuko Matoi, to be her long-lost daughter, but this just makes the latter more eager to take the villain out. Unfortunately, the combined efforts of Ryuko and Satsuki Kiryuin pale in comparison to their mother's utterly captivating martial artistry.
7 STRONG: ACNOLOGIA. The big bad of the whole show, this guy was absurd. The most powerful character in Fairy Tail was Gildarts —often so powerful they kept him off the show because he could just easily defeat any threat the team dealt with.
They have to be capable of challenging the hero, but sometimes a villain is just over powered. Anime villains are the backbone of a good series. They have to be capable of challenging the hero, but sometimes a villain is just overpowered. These are the villains who aren’t just powerful, but they seem unfair in their abilities to the point ...
Jiren was incredibly powerful, but by the end of the story, he was actually beatable. It took Goku going Ultra Instinct, then teaming up with Freiza to accomplish it, but the point was, the invincible giant eventually went down.
He ran through A-Rank heroes easily, and was beginning to get ready to embarrass S-Ranked heroes as well. It isn’t that he can’t be beaten, it’s that his potential continues to grow and excel—his growth happens mid-battle as a ridiculous rate.
There are also anime villains who are surprisingly weak when compared to other villains and even the heroes in their own series. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the story intended for them to be weak, but rather the storyline they got wrote them in a way that they never got the chance to blow the audience away.
Saitama had zero problems smacking Garou around. The Hero Hunter ran into Saitama multiple times and lost so quickly Saitama didn’t even know who he was. But that’s not fair, as Saitama exists on a different scale than everyone else.
As a human, Sukuna was the strongest Sorcerer in history with a sadistic personality. Little else is known about his past in Jujutsu Kaisen, but it's safe to assume he was pretty much fearless. As a cursed spirit, Sukuna maintains his remarkable strength and insatiable bloodlust, while displaying an absence of fear in the process.
Uvogin left quite the impression on fans despite his limited screen time in Hunter X Hunter. He was the first member of the Troupe seen in action, decimating the Shadow Beasts with brute force combined with Nen mastery.
Makishima believed the ends justified the means in Psycho Pass. While his goal was arguably heroic, his actions were murderous and heinous. Makishima was determined to bring down the Sibyl System and restore the individualism that existed before the oppressive regime took over.
A complex and fascinating character in Vinland Saga, Askeladd was equal parts hero and villain. He unfairly killed Thors, but he also prevented the tyrannical King Of Denmark from colonising Wales.
Madara possessed an insatiable appetite for knowledge, and along the way he discovered how to overcome death. As an Uchiha in Naruto, Madara had access to the fabled Mangekyou Sharingan and its terrifying abilities, including Izanagi. Izanagi is a powerful genjutsu that grants the user the power to rewrite reality.
King Bradley was the leader of Amestris and the Homunculi known as Wrath. Unlike the other Homunculi, Bradley was originally a human whose body was fused with a philosopher's stone made from wrathful souls. He therefore developed a wrathful essence, masked by an outwardly friendly and cheery demeanour.
Boros was a planet-conquering alien tortured by his own overwhelming strength in One-Punch Man. Boros proved too powerful for every enemy and he traversed the universe in search for someone capable of satisfying his thrill for battle.
Yoshikage Kira was easily the weakest JoJo villain to have his own act. Much of his survival was facilitated through sheer chance or the many augmentations he received as the series progressed (such as the convenient abilities of the Stand arrow or the clever usage of Stray Cat).
3 Jaken Constantly Threatened Inuyasha & His Allies Despite His Inability To Hurt Them (Inuyasha) Jaken was the servant of Lord Sesshomaru and his most vocal sycophant. During interactions with Inuyasha, he would constantly threaten the half-demon with his wrath for the perceived slights against his master.
10 Bellamy Thought He Was Stronger Than Luffy Because He Didn't Fight Back (One Piece) Bellamy was a man with a decent bounty who resided in Mock Town. He scorned Luffy's dreams of reaching Skypiea and attacked him in the bar, misinterpreting his passiveness as weakness and disregarding the threat he posed.
Ruin was a member of the Weird Fangs who was able to turn allies against each other through the illusions of his bell. This gave him enormous confidence in his abilities, though it was critically misplaced.
Some anime villains act tough & arrogant but don' t possess the actual power to back themselves up. Many anime villains' claims to power are genuine. Their confidence is placed in staggering abilities that the combined efforts of the series' heroes struggle to (or, in some instances, can't) overcome. As a result, the threat they pose ...
Takaharu was a Two-Star uniform student and the president of the boxing club. He was the first of Satsuki's minions to be deployed against Ryuko and possessed an unnaturally high confidence in his abilities.
Hidan's immortality and ritual circle may have both served him well in the Akatsuki, though they were his only assets in battle. Consequently, he had no other significant ninjutsu or genjutsu to note, with his taijutsu remaining subpar compared to the series' other shinobi.
1 Intelligence Doesn't Come With Wisdom Or Goodness - Yagami Light, Death Note. Yagami Light is notorious as one of the most intelligent anime characters ever created. He's also one of the medium's deadliest villains, and as Death Note reaches its 15th anniversary, he's still on every list for the smartest, most manipulative, ...
The manga is slightly different, but in the original Full Metal Alchemist anime from 2003, we found out that kindly old shut-in Dante was the ultimate villain the whole time. She created most of the homunculi and others created; she cultivated to do her bidding.
One thing that keeps bringing fans back to anime is the memorable characters , which doesn't always mean the hero. The figure we all love to hate, the villain, plays an important part in the story. They're often more compelling and entertaining to watch than the hero, which makes it all the more satisfying when they fail or are defeated.
He destroyed Planet Vegeta because of the Super Saiyan legend, almost as a flippant gesture to soothe his own paranoia. The result was the survivors swearing revenge, most notably the hero of the series, Goku.
Frieza might not be the most intelligent villain on this list, but he certainly thinks he is. Granted, most of Freiza's brains come from his own superiority complex, but you don't exactly get to be master of the universe if you're a bumbling oaf. He's well-spoken and obviously has some complex thought processes.
Most of the story leads us to believe that the Puppet Master is the bad guy and the characters that represent the police, specifically Section 9, are the good guys.
She was the most powerful soldier in the whole universe, and she thought she was strong enough to contain Chaos within her own body. As the darkness took over, it might have occurred to Galaxia that maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all.
Of all the villains on this list, Griffith has to be the most tragic. He began as a noble hero. As the leader of the mercenary Band of the Falcon, Griffith used his impeccable swordsmanship and great charisma to bring peace to the land of Midland. The first peace it had known in 100 years. But the betrayal of his best friend Guts broke something in Griffith, and his nobility vanished. He sacrificed all his soldiers to demons to join their ranks, becoming the despot Femto. Now, he is invulnerable to mortal attacks, possess telekinetic powers, and can even warp space.
For a series that would become known for strong, diabolical villains, Dragon Ball started off much different in that department. Emperor Pilaf was the first villain in the venerable franchise, and unlike later villains like Frieza or Cell, he was no match physically for Goku and company.
A recurring theme in Anime is mastermind villains who hide behind much stronger henchmen. They tend to be smug and think they're invincible, until the minute their henchmen get defeated. Gato from Naruto was one of these villains. A corrupt businessman and drug smuggler, he was able to cow the Land of Waves into servitude through use of mercenaries.
He could turn people into Titans too. But the scariest thing about the Beast Titan was that he could talk. There was a mind in there directing this horrorshow. His Bigfoot-inspired look and lanky arms just made the Beast Titan even more pants-wetting to behold. His true aims are still unknown.
His mummy look is the result of being set on fire by the very government that created him. Because of those burns, Makoto can only fight for fifteen minutes at a time. But with his skill with a sword, 15 minutes is more than he needs. He often sets his sword on fire too, if he wasn't him metal enough. Makoto is more than a match for the ronin Kenshin. He might make good on his threat to conquer Heck from the devil.
It feels weird to describe any villain from One-Punch Man as strong. They do exist only to get blown away by Saitama. But give credit to Boros. He was the first villain to survive one punch from the one-punch man. A parody of Dragon Ball Z- style alien invaders, Boros presented a unique foil to our bald protagonist. Both were way too dang powerful and searching for a thrilling opponent. He might not have been a match for Saitama, but Boros did make the bald hero put some effort in for the first time in the series. That's something.
Monster is a much more grounded, realistic Anime than most on this list. Its villain can't destroy planets or resurrect himself. But he is powerful in the most real-world sense. Johan Liebert is a sociopath with a genius-level IQ, an expert in manipulation and an all-around polymath.
