" Old Sultan " ( German: Der alte Sultan) is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm (KHM 48). The tale combines two different Aarne–Thompson-Uther types: ATU 101 ("The Old Dog as Rescuer of the Child") and ATU 103 ("War between Wild Animals and Domestic Animals").

The story's title character and protagonist is a very old sheepdog. The shepherd who owns Old Sultan thinks that the dog has outlived his usefulness. He therefore decides to kill the old sheepdog. A friendly wolf comes up with a plan to save Old Sultan's life.
In A Lesson for Sultan, the Ba'i sa Agamaniyog uses her wisdom by thinking of ways to improve Lokes a Mama's condition in life. She told Lokes a Mama to cut down the sandalwood tree, chop it into pieces separating the branches from the trunk and store all the pieces for future use.
