The show's gorgeous animation and unique character designs help it stand out even more. The Promised Neverland doesn't quite live up to the hype just yet, but for all its flaws it is still a rock solid and entertaining thriller that provides a new spin on Shonen content.

Their relationship is genuinely touching and heartfelt, but it's also devastatingly sad because of what they're going through. Though the three of them share a special bond, they feel like all of the children at Grace Field House are their family, which makes the idea of leaving anyone behind intolerable.
Kaiu Shirai's The Promised Neverland is one of the few instances of a modern shonen manga with a female protagonist. However, that series features an excessive amount of gore and violence, so it is not recommended for young children.

Kaiu Shirai brought the 300 page of The Promised Neverland draft to the Weekly Shōnen Jump editorial department. Suguru Sugita, the editor of The Promised Neverland, said that the series was an ambitious work, with both bright and dark scenes that needed a world of fantasy that would also create suspense. They had difficulties trying to find an artist whose style could match the story, ranging from famous illustrators to new and upcoming talent. Shirai considered Posuka Demizu as one of the candidates, as him and Sugita felt that her art was the best fit for the series' imagery. Some candidates turned down the offer, giving comments like the story did not feel like a Jump manga, or that it would not become a hit, so they were "really happy and excited" when Demizu agreed to work on it.
In February 2020, the anime series was awarded "Best Fantasy" at Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and the Grace Field House caretaker Isabella won the "Best Antagonist" category. Polygon named the series as one of the best anime of the 2010s, and Crunchyroll listed it in their "Top 100 best anime of the 2010s". IGN also listed The Promised Neverland among the best anime series of the 2010s. Lauren Orsini of Forbes included The Promised Neverland on her list of the best anime of the decade. The Verge also listed the anime series in its list of the best anime of 2019. James Beckett of Anime News Network ranked the series 5th on his list of best anime series of 2019. "The Promise" was an agreement where each would live in their own separate "worlds": the human world, free from the threat of demons; and the demon world, where human breeding farms were set up to provide food for the demons. By eating humans, demons take on their attributes which prevent them from degenerating into mindless monsters. In the demon world, a special breeding program was set up under the guise of orphanages; there, a human "Mother" would oversee the children to make sure they grew up as intelligent as possible. These children had identifying numbers tattooed on them and had no knowledge of the outside world. They believed that they were orphans and once they reached a certain age or intelligence, they would be taken out for adoption, but were fed to high-ranking demons instead.
Directed by Yūichirō Hirakawa with Noriko Gotou handling the film's script, it stars Minami Hamabe as Emma, Jyo Kairi as Ray, Rihito Itagaki as Norman, Keiko Kitagawa as Isabella, and Naomi Watanabe as Krone. The casting for Krone was met with controversy as the character is depicted being black in the manga and anime, while Watanabe herself is Japanese. Japanese rock band Zutomayo performed the film's theme song "Tadashiku Narenai" (正しくなれない, "It Can't Be Right").
Emma, Norman, Ray, and many other "siblings" live at an isolated orphanage cut off from the outside world. They live a charmed life surrounded by friends and watched over by Mama, their caretaker, until they leave the house for a foster family by the age of twelve.
This review will be spoiler free, aside from revealing the overall tone of the show. The Promised Neverland is a compelling thriller that utilizes sound and animation to form an effective tone. In particular it’s use of sound effects and music serve to build tension and create emotion.
The Promised Neverland is a twisted tale of orphans living at the Grace Field House and their beloved caretaker Mama, Isabella. The orphanage that houses these clueless orphans lies in the middle of a forest. The rule that these naive children must follow is to never venture out of the orphanage, come what may.
The entrapment means battling inside demons, for characters in the anime , such as post traumatic disorders.
Almost similar to Higurashi, Shiki traces the tale of a village, Satoba where reanimated dead bodies eat up the villagers, a classic zombie story. These zombies are called Shiki and they throng the village to feed on the locals. The word Shiki literally translates to corpse-demons.
Madoka, hands down feel like a paler version of Neverland, given how only 12 episodes came out and a sequel movie failed to impress. But that shouldn't deter a watcher.
If the thriller/dark fantasy genre enthralls you, here are 10 picks of the same lot, given that season 2 of Neverland is slated to come out in 2020.
Seraph of the End also has some of the finest action-animation sequences, but the tale of characters raised as fodder for vamps, to eventually battling for their life, in a fantasy war is beyond incredible. FYI, Owari no Seraph, the ongoing manga shares a magazine with The Promised Neverland with weekly chapter releases.
Neverland and Madoka are two different standards of probably the same thing: stolen childhoods but it is world-building that Madoka fails at. There isn't enough build-up to the characters losing their innocence and in the anime getting dark. However, the story is far from a feel-good experience.
