"A Night to Remember" is based on Walter Lord's book of the same title. It does an excellent job of accurately following Lord's masterful book. It tells the story of the ill-fated "Titanic" from its launch in May 1911 to its maiden (and only) voyage in April 1912, during which it struck an iceberg and sank.
This film has really stood the test of time, especially now in this lovely digital restoration. "A Night to Remember" reigns supreme as a historical telling of what transpired that night. It eschews the love story of the 1997 film in favor of spotlighting the historical characters and the events leading to the sinking.
"A Night to Remember" should be on the lists of those who enjoyed "Titanic" as they are essentially the same film, but one gives more historical context and they play off of each other beautifully. Get them both! I would say to watch this one first to get more insight into the disaster before watching James Cameron's film.
When I opened my eyes, the first thing I realized is that I am not a living person. Who am I? Why am I wandering around this place? And who is that man who visits my grave every week?
Stories with dark characters or situations, such as rape, murder or any other type of violence, both physical and psychological. However, they are good stories, or at least interesting ones for those who love the dark side of life.
