" Mr. Miao " ( Chinese: 苗生; pinyin: Miáo shēng ), also translated as " The Tiger Guest " and " Student Miao ", is a short story by Pu Songling first published in Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio (1740). It revolves around a few Chinese scholars and their encounter with a tiger spirit named Miao.
A Miao then changes his head to that of a cat then panda before assuming his original form of a boy with cat like ears who is 16. He is pleased to be able to fold his cat ears away then as he resumes his joyful walk A Miao's tail is showing.
Gong is coerced into drinking a few more cups of liquor, whereas Miao drinks from a bowl. Miao admits to Gong that he is not adept at entertaining guests, and tells him that he may leave if he pleases.
Mr. Miao's metamorphosis into a tiger is a reflection of his apathy towards Gong and friends' "boring talking and mutual admiration".
Adapted from a short tale from self-made animator Bu Sifan, writer and director of Dahufa, the feature introduces a fictional golden-colored flower, which possesses the magical ability to debauch humans who get too close to it.

The family name "Miao" literally translates to both "seedling" or "seedlings" in both Chinese and Japanese, as well as pronounced as "Nae" in Japanese as the character spelling "苗" as a word, and pronounced as Myao as translation pronunciation from Chinese pronunciation in the Japanese language.
Xia-Long Miao, Head of the Miao Family, with Routier. The Miao Family (苗家, Myao Ka) is a Chinese mobster family led by Xia-Long Miao. They are the long-time rivals of the Huang Family. They are also the family of Ten-Ten, whose maiden surname was Miao before marriage to Fei-Hong Huang .
When the Masked King caught wind of this, he cruelly punishes the Miao Family by breaking the bones of Xia-Long's father and stuffing him in a briefcase whilst still alive. When Xia-Long met with the Masked King, the Masked King promises him the whole of China, but threatens to inflict a most gruesome death upon him should he turn traitor.
En route to Xi'an for an examination, Minzhou (岷州) scholar Gong (龚) stops for a drink at an inn, where he is approached by a burly but well-mannered stranger who introduces himself as "Miao" (苗). Gong buys him a drink, but this does not satisfy Miao; Miao heads to the marketplace and returns with a considerably large jar of wine.
Allan Barr observes that "Pu Songling was keenly conscious that vivid effects could be achieved by the use of dialogue" and "he frequently relied on colloquial speech to lend immediacy to a scene" as is evidenced by Mr. Miao's rebuke of Gong's friends at the picnic.
