Animethon is a three-day anime convention held annually at Edmonton Convention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. It is Canada's longest-running anime convention, the first being held in 1994. Animethon was formed back in 1994 by the Banzai Anime Klub of Alberta (BAKA) and hosted by (BAKA II), with the intention of promoting Japanese anime.
Founded in 1990, A-Kon® is home to over 36,000 fans and active community enthusiasts of anime, gaming, cosplay, music, fashion, manga, art, film, media and Japanese culture.
A-KON's new look reflects anime's new era. The nerds and the geeks aren't just here to stay they now come from all walks of life, across every imaginable background, and they're still a little wild and proudly weird. Anime Unchained reflects that every facet of our community has grown, but not at the cost of its identity or spirit.

Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in the world by attendance. It was originally called “Anime Con” and it is known for bringing an increased number of western gaming elements into the event atmosphere alongside the celebration of Japanese culture and anime.
The convention in 2015 remained at the George R. Brown Convention Center and used the first and most of the second floors. Anime Matsuri 2020 was moved from July to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was later canceled after Houston announced the city would be holding no more events in 2020.
San Japan 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 event had a attendance cap of 10,000, with mask and vaccination or heath assessment requirements.
