Production

Stephen Schwartz explained that the songwriters were not sure about the assignment, but agreed to it, noting that it turned into A Guy Like You which made it into the final film.

Synopsis

According to The Washington Post, "the song encourages Quasi in his wrongheaded pursuit of Gypsy dancer Esmeralda ."

Composition

The song has " Broadway pizazz". It has been described as "sprightly" and "this show's answer to ' Be Our Guest '." Indianapolis Star describes it as a "peppy tune of encouragement".

Tone difference with rest of film

The song was added in the film to add some levity after "the intensity of Hellfire " which is followed by Frollo "go [ing] on a tear extorting Gypsies, arresting people, attempting to kill people including Phoebus and burning a good portion of Paris ."

Home releases

A three-minute multi-language reel of the song "A Guy Like You" is featured on the Blu-ray DVD.

Critical reception

Much like the gargoyles' role in the film, the song has received mainly mixed reviews.

Background

"A Guy Like You" was one of a number of songs recorded during sessions for The Turn but not intended for the album as Moyet did not feel it fit with the overall theme.

Promotion

A music video was filmed to promote the single. Moyet also appeared on both The Graham Norton Show and The One Show to promote its release. She performed the song live on Norton's show.

Critical reception

In a review of The Turn, Billboard felt the album "proffers all sides of the singer/songwriter's persona", including "dance siren" on "A Guy Like You".

Trivia

At one point, when the gargoyles give Quasimodo a makeover, he’s seen wearing a tall white wig, which is supposedly a reference to his voice actor, Tom Hulce ’s, previous role in the 1984 bio drama, Amadeus.

Reviews

While the art isn't bad for this webcomic and it has been interesting enough for me to consume 64 chapters in one day, I have to say A Guy Like You has two major flaws. Firstly, the primary and secondary characters for this series are seriously annoying. All four of them.

Who is Izumi in Magical Girl?

Izumi is the main protagonist of the story. A college student at the age of eighteen, he aspires to be a manga author despite lacking the talent for it. His father is a director, his mother is a film actress, and his older brother Shōgo is the lead vocalist of a popular band. Ten years ago, he botched a bouquet catching scene in a commercial while dressed as a girl, and since then he refuses to be involved in the entertainment industry due to his "accident" caused by stage fright. Over the course of the series, he begins to develop strong feelings for Ryoma and falls in love with him. He is a huge fan of the fictional anime show Magical Girl Lala-Lulu. Izumi is often mistaken as a girl due to his tiny frame.

Who plays Ryoma in the Izumi commercial?

Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi (Japanese); Adam Gibbs (English) Portrayed by: Hiroki Nakada (film) Ryoma is a popular young actor two years older than Izumi, who fell in love with him as a child, thinking him to be a girl, when they co-starred in a commercial together ten years prior.

Does Izumi want to return to Ryoma?

However the reviewer tells him he has no talent and depressed Izumi goes to Ryoma's house, asking him not to contact Rei. Izumi never wants to return home and tells Ryoma that he wants to stay at Ryoma's place. Ryoma reminds him that he's in love with Izumi and that he doesn't have that much self-control.
