While A Certain Scientific Accelerator is essentially a spin-off of the original Magical Index series, in theory, you can watch it before the main anime. However, it is not recommended to do so.
This action-comedy originally started as a light novel series by Kiyotaka Haimura, whose works have been published and adapted into several anime series. With an anime, a couple of spinoffs, and some films in tow, just how would viewers start watching A Certain Magical Index?
Obviously, since it's numbered, you need to watch Index in order. My point is that Accelerator, Index, and Railgun are all different kinds of series taking place in the same universe. You have some flexibility if you want to break up the watch order, and you might not like all three series. Thanks.
The first of them is to simply follow the broadcast order:A Certain Magical Index.A Certain Scientific Railgun.A Certain Magical Index II.A Certain Scientific Railgun S.A Certain Magical Index: The Movie – The Miracle of Endymion.A Certain Scientific Accelerator.A Certain Magical Index III.More items...•
If you are wondering about the episode order: The broadcasted Accelerator S1 arc happens after Index S1, episode 17 and Railgun S, episode 24. Which means the Accelerator S1 happens before Index S1, episode 18 and Index S2, episode 1, and Index S1 episodes 19-24, and Index S2, episodes 2-5.
A sequel was announced in October 2012, with the cast and staff from the first season confirming their return in the same month. A Certain Scientific Railgun S aired in Japan on April 12, 2013, consisting of twenty-four episodes, and concluded on September 27. A third season was announced in October 2018.
The game was updated to A Certain Magical Index: Struggle Battle II, but was later announced the end of its service on March 30, 2018.
Here is the watch order based on broadcast:A Certain Magical Index.A Certain Scientific Railgun.A Certain Magical Index II.A Certain Scientific Railgun S.A Certain Magical Index the Movie: The Miracle of Endymion.A Certain Scientific Accelerator.A Certain Magical Index III.A Certain Scientific Railgun T.
Accelerator happens after Last Order is introduced in the Three Stories Arc in Index season 1, so it's probably best to watch this spin-off after finishing that. If you want to watch some mix of everything, release order is fine.
It helps that chronologically, Railgun starts before the events of Index , making it a perfectly accessible entry point to the Raildex franchise . It's not hard to find people who swear by Railgun , but who either haven't watched Index or think very lowly of it.
Regardless of quality, Index is still the main series. Railgun might handle certain arcs (and characters) better than Index, but the latter is more relevant when it comes to worldbuilding, plot development, and character follow-up.

The magical index season 4 will be released on Netflix 2022. The magical index is a show that follows the adventures of two children, a girl and a boy, who are the last remaining humans in the universe. The show has been running for four seasons with an audience of over 20 million viewers.
Index is still the only girl to have confessed her love to Touma, however, Touma avoided answering by changing the subject of the conversation since he had lost his memories, he had no idea about what kind of relationship he used to have with Index.
According to Tree Diagram, only Accelerator can achieve Level 6. As such, it was later calculated that Accelerator can achieve Level 6 if he kills clones of Misaka Mikoto, known as Sisters, 20,000 times in battle.
Watching A Certain Magical / Scientific Series in its chronological order is highly recommended. It has a higher emotional impact and preserves the mystery of the rest of the seasons. The bonus episodes and specials hold no relevance to the main story. They could be watched at the end or be skipped altogether.
