Syrus's brother, Zane Truesdale, is arguably the most formidable combatant in Duelist Academy. Through the might of his Cyber Dragon deck, he obliterates his competition, having defeated even Jaden himself.
Still, cowards can be extraordinarily brave at times. Many anime characters brazenly forge ahead, opposing hero and villain alike without a moment's hesitation. These stolid encounters make for riveting battles of good and evil, culminating with stunning action and sometimes even noble sacrifices.

Over time Alibaba establishes himself to be heroic, but when the series begins his biggest battle is trying to ignore his fear and take the steps to do the right thing both for himself and others.
After Kurama narrowly beat multiple people and passed out, Bakken didn’t want a fair fight—he simply beat on an unconscious Kurama to boost his own ego. His technique was ultimately worthless, which is why he got completely washed by Yusuke seconds after he got into the ring.

Early on, Kenichi is very much a coward. This doesn’t last long, as by the middle of the series he learns his lesson and gains enough training to be able to keep up with people who are attacking him.
Yajirobe is pretty cold when he’s first introduced. He easily kills off one of the minions of Piccolo, and has no problem smacking Goku around either. But this doesn’t last terribly long.
